Description
Clarinet – Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy
This 14-keyed clarinet was made by the renowned company Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy & Cie or J.T.L. It was a large French musical instrument making company which was established in the mid-19th century. It resulted from the merger of several successful ateliers. The company produced large numbers of stringed, woodwind and brass instruments. It even reached annual production rates of over 150,000 instruments produced by more than 1,000 skilled workers. A business was opened up in London in 1880. The entire J.T.L. company ceased business in 1969.
This palisander clarinet was made in France around 1900. There is a maker’s stamp on all parts except for the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece appears original. The thumbrest also has a maker’s stamp.
It is in very good condition, but needs some TLC [tender loving care] to sound wonderful again.
