Description
B-flat clarinet – RAMPONE
This unusual B-flat clarinet was made in Milan, Italy by the RAMPONE company. It was founded by Agostino RAMPONE (1843-1897) and was extremely successful. It employed over 80 workers producing wind instruments by the time Agostino Rampone died in 1897 at the age of 54. His two sons, Egidio (1872-1937) and Alfredo (1873-1938) continued on with the business.
show more On August 24, 1900, Egidio and Alfredo Rampone obtained patent number 56023 for a clarinet with ‘voce rinforzata’ or ‘reinforced voice’. This special model was listed in the Rampone catalogues from 1900 to around 1915. Here we have one of these models and we can date it to around that time. They were available in A, B-flat and C in ebony or grenadilla and featured a curved or tilted bell. The clarinet is crafted in grenadilla with 14 nickel silver keys. The instrument has the company stamp and is marked ‘BREVETTATO’ for the patent. It is sold as is for restoration and would be a nice addition to any clarinet collection. We think that this clarinet would have the power to produce some amazing sounding lower notes. If you’re a clarinettist in a band, why not strut your stuff on the front row with this very cool and distinctive item? show less
