Conical ring-key flute – anonymous
Attention all open G-sharp lovers – we have the perfect conical ring-key flute for you. It’s in nice condition and on sale at a nice price too.
This grenadilla ring-key flute was made around 1900 and features a metal head joint with a reform, ebonite lip-plate. It has an open G-sharp key and reverse thumb-key. The flute is pitched at a=435 Hz. The mechanism is made of nickel silver and mounted on a single rib on the middle joint. The head joint is nickel plated. By taking a look at the photos, we can see a holder for a thumb rest – but the thumb rest itself seems to have been lost.
The flute is playable; however, it needs a new set of pads.
Who made it? Well, it’s quite puzzling since our unknown maker only left one mark to the side of the mechanism on the middle joint – a crown.
