Viennese-style clarinet – anonymous
This charming grenadilla clarinet likely originated in Austria, as suggested by the design of its rings, particularly the one on the bell. It features ten keys made of nickel silver and has a raised hole for the right pinky finger. The thumb rest appears to have been added later, and there is no mouthpiece included. It may be an E-flat clarinet, but it’s a bit short. The tone-holes are quite large.
Since this clarinet doesn’t have a maker’s stamp, it may not appeal to many collectors. Yet, it’s common for unmarked or anonymous instruments to be quite affordable and can be a joy to play.
This instrument has a history marked by various repairs. With the right expertise, it could be easily returned to excellent playing condition.
