Clarinet – BOCK, G
This antique B-flat clarinet was made around the beginning of the nineteenth century in Alfeld, which lies on the Leine river in Lower Saxony, Germany.
The literature (Hart in the Langwill index) tells us that G. Bock’s instruments were similar to those produced by the STREITWOLF workshop in Gottingen. So, G. Bock could have been a dealer selling Streitwolf’s instruments or some form of associate. Either way, the G. remains a mystery… Georg… Gunter… or even Gustav! We can therefore assume that this instrument may have been made by Johann Heinrich Gottlieb STREITWOLF (1779-1837).
This early Müller-type clarinet is crafted in boxwood that now has a lovely honey colour. It is equipped with thirteen keys made of brass and the rings are made of horn. It has partly original pads.
