Silver flute – WM. S. HAYNES
This gorgeous Wm. S. Haynes inline flute is crafted in solid silver and is also rare. Why rare? By consulting the company website, we can date this flute # 22842 to January 14, 1953. It is specified as a THM French flute. THM meant Super Thin Wall, so with a tube thickness of possibly under around 0.3 mm. It has open holes, pointed keywork and an extremely thin tube which gives it a lovely singing tone.
The company made very few of these THM French models around that time. The flute was made after its founder William Sherman HAYNES (1864-1939) had already passed away.
This is the handmade model with soldered tone-holes. The scale is designed to the pitch of a=440 Hz. It is however possible to play the flute slightly higher (up to a=442 Hz, depending on the player) if the head joint is fully inserted.
Overall, the flute is in very good playing condition and is supplied in its original case. Its tone is brilliant and bright, powerful and with very good response. This rare, super-thin wall, handmade silver flute simply emanates French finesse.
