Late Romantic oboe – PINDER, Heinrich
Eduard Heinrich Franz PINDER, or Heinrich Pinder, as he preferred to be known, was born in Adorf, Vogtland, Germany in 1857.
He moved to Dresden where in 1886, he took over the woodwind workshop of Gottlieb Louis ZENCKER (1813-1886), himself a Vogtlander. Zencker had previously taken over the workshop of (Christian) Wilhelm LIEBEL (1793-1871). By the 20 December 1895 he had earned the title of Saxon court instrument maker.
He worked together with flute virtuoso Moritz FÜRSTENAU (1824-1889) and also developed the “Bauer-Pinder” flute with the Dresden flutist Paul BAUER (1864-1929). He died in Dresden on 9 December 1913 and his business was continued and finally taken over by Theodor Karl POPPE.
This Heinrich Pinder oboe is made of boxwood which has been nicely stained and varnished. It is in its original condition and unchanged. We can see its twelve nickel silver keys, including automatic octave keys and beautifully turned ivory rings. This oboe is supplied in its original case with a tenon protector.
In terms of condition, this instrument is in very good shape and a great restoration project.
Our opinion
This late-Romantic oboe was made by one of the famous lines of Dresden wind instrument makers. We think it was made in the 1870s. Once restored, it will be a great instrument to play and could be used for late Romantic music such as Brahms.
Important note
This instrument contains ivory. A certificate for the legal sale of this instrument within the European Union is supplied when purchased.
