Description
One-keyed boxwood flute – CAHUSAC
This single-keyed boxwood flute is in beautiful condition. It was made by one of London’s most famous instrument-making families – the Cahusacs.
The detailed photos show that it is made in lovely dark stained boxwood with nice figuring. It has a single silver key, which is very special because it is inlaid. This was typical for early English flutes, like those made by Stanesby. The embouchure is slightly oval and completely original and untouched. There are also no visible cracks. The rings and cap are masterfully crafted in ivory.
This Cahusac flute has been cleaned and new tenon threads added, as the old ones were missing. The flute still has its original pad and head cork.
It plays at around a=435 Hz and speaks very easily. It has a lovely dark colour in the lower notes and very good overall intonation. It would be the perfect companion for playing English music of the time.
Important note
