Tenor horn – COUESNON & CIE
Who hasn’t heard of the company Couesnon? It’s one of the greatest names in brass instruments in business for nearly 200 years. It flourished in Paris from 1883 to 1950. The Couesnon company really started out in 1827 outside of the French capital as the August G. GUICHARD workshop. August G. Guichard died in 1845. The business was left in the capable hands of Pierre Luis GAUTROT (Guichard’s brother-in-law and former apprentice) and was later bought by Gautrot’s son-in-law, Amédée COUESNON (1850-1951).
show more The Coueson & Cie name was established in 1888. Amedee Couesnon led the company for nearly fifty years, earning numerous medals and accolades for exceptional quality and technical advancements. At its peak, the company boasted eight factories and a workforce of 1000! This charming tenor horn, elegantly adorned and silver-plated, was crafted after Couesnon & Cie received a gold medal at the 1889 Paris Exposition. In fact, it was made in 1893. This can be confirmed by the two digits (93) visible in the image of a grenade on the bell. Overall, the condition is nice, and all the slides and valves operate smoothly. There is no mouthpiece and there are a few dents visible in the pictures. With a little care and well-deserved polish, this tenor horn could truly shine in any collection. show less
