Ocarina in F with tuning slide – SCHULZE, Moritz
This porcelain ocarina, number 4 in F was made in Meissen in Germany, probably around 1900-1910 by Moritz SCHULZE. He started out producing ocarinas in 1895 from clay terracotta and porcelain there until 1908. There’s an article about the ocarina makers in Meissen written in German here to read or download. This beautiful white and cobalt blue ocarina features the famous Zwiebelmuster [Blue Onion] pattern, which is hand painted on the instrument.
It has 10 holes and a tuning slide. The tuning slide enables the player to adjust the pitch of the ocarina to match with other players or instruments. It is in good vintage condition with some slight damage to the tail/point. Its sound is very sweet.
