Post horn in C

This is a brass post horn pitched in C. Post horns were used historically to signal the arrival and departure of mail coaches. People were alerted to clear the way free and to prepare fresh horses.

Made from polished and later varnished brass, it features attachment loops for a carrying strap and a distinctive flared bell designed to project sound across distances. It also has a tuning slide and mouthpiece.

We think it was made around 1900 in Germany. It was restored by its previous owner and is in nice overall condition.
