Double flageolet – BAINBRIDGE & WOOD
This double flageolet was restored and is in playing condition. It has a nominal pitch of C and lowest note D. It is made of beautiful boxwood and has five silver keys and two windcutter keys (labium shutters). The original beak, wind distributor and studs are all made of ivory. The holes are numbered on one side of the pipes with the note names on the other.
show more It was made between 1808 and 1821 when English makers, William BAINBRIDGE (1768/9-1830) and John WOOD were in business together. William Bainbridge was an esteemed instrument maker and inventor, recognised as one of the most prominent English figures associated with flageolets. He played a crucial role in the advancement of various types of flageolets, including the double, triple, “improved”, or “patent” English flageolets, as well as the double flute variant. John Wood remains a somewhat mysterious character. Where he was before 1808 is unclear. We do know however that the partnership came to an end because John Wood died on January 12, 1820 in his 43rd year. The double flageolet is now in fantastic condition with an additional fabric case to keep it safe and protected. It plays at a=440 Hz and the sound is…. double as pleasing! Important note This instrument contains ivory. A certificate for the legal sale of this instrument within the European Union is supplied when purchased. show less
