English flageolet– MATHIEU, Charles
This English flageolet is stamped by the maker Parisian-based maker, inventor and musician, Charles MATHIEU. It is made of durable cast metal with a nickel-plated finish. It features six front-facing tone-holes and has an integrated metal fipple mouthpiece.
The flageolet is in F; so, the lowest note is F and it plays slightly under a=440 Hz.
These flageolets were sold by the Parisian company ULLMANN. Charles and Joseph Ullmann established a factory at Mirecourt in 1881 with a wholesale warehouse in Paris from 1908-1928. In the 1907 catalogue this flageolet sold for just 14.50 Francs!
It delivers a sweet, beautifully clear tone and plays remarkably well.
