The instrument is made of grenadilla with a nickel silver, silver-plated mechanism and ferrules. It is a full conservatory system with a fully automatic octave key and keywork down to B-flat. It is stamped on all parts and includes the serial number 4758, which we believe dates it to after the Second World War.

The A. E. FISCHER workshop was founded by August Emil Wilhelm FISCHER (1840-1920). He was born, like his famous brother Carl FISCHER (1849-1923) in Buttstädt, Thuringia, Germany. August Emil moved to Bremen while his brother Carl found his fortune in New York.

This English horn/cors anglais is in good condition overall. There are no obvious cracks, except for a hairline crack at the tenon of the bell. The bottom ring is missing. It would need to be overhauled to be played professionally again.

The instrument comes in its original case with two original crooks and tenon protectors.
