Description
Five-keyed flute – THIBOUVILLE BUFFET
This flute was made by the company THIBOUVILLE BUFFET which was active in the second half of the nineteenth century. It is thought that the business was formed by Louis and Nicholas Thibouville after the company THIBOUVILLE FRÉRES had been dissolved in 1847.
It is made from exquisitely chosen cocuswood and features elegant nickel silver keys – it represents a typical French flute from that era, equipped with five keys.
Despite its age, it’s in very good condition with no visible cracks. Even the barrel and head joint appear to have survived intact – not a crack in sight! It has a fully functional screw cork and tuning slide. The pads and corks could perhaps even be original. It is supplied in a sturdy period case.
The flute plays as a=440 Hz with the tuning slide pulled out by 8 mm. Its sound is colourful and bright. It plays very nicely and can be used therefore at modern pitch.
