Solid silver Boehm flute – WENNER, Martin

It’s time for us to blow our own trumpet… or in this case our own flute! This solid silver beauty is called an Einhorn or Unicorn flute and was made by the German master woodwind instrument maker Martin WENNER. It’s an exception that we are selling this instrument since it is modern. But it does make a change to write about a maker who’s still alive and kicking!

Martin WENNER was born in Freising, Bavaria back in 1963 and studied music before deciding to make flutes himself. At the early age of just 14, he made his own wooden flutes and restorations of historical originals. He studied to become a master woodwind instrument maker and worked at Mollenhauer and Küng before setting up his own workshop in Singen. Before deciding to specialise and focus purely on traversos and recorders, Martin made around 30 entirely handmade solid silver flutes called the Einhornflöte. He is also now a sworn state expert.

This flute is entirely handmade with drawn tone-holes, inline keywork and B-foot. It has platinum (he really pushed the boat out!!!) springs and the scale is calculated to a=443 Hz.

It was sold in 2005 and overhauled in 2016. Its previous owner is sadly no longer with us.

This Martin Wenner exquisite silver flute captures the rich, warm and round tones inspired by historical French flutes played at a modern pitch and scale. It’s a rare instrument which is seldom seen on the market.

We think this is a wonderful chance for a musician to own a truly special Martin Wenner Einhorn silver flute.
