Solid silver flute – MILLEREAU
Here is one of the “Holy Grails” of French silver flutes… a solid silver MILLEREAU flute – and what a beauty!
Dated to around 1880, the flute has a seamed tube and features soldered tone-holes and elegantly sculpted keywork and crown. The masterfully designed oval cut embouchure has dimensions of 10.48 mm by 12.15 mm. It also has a beautifully made pinned-foot mechanism – take a look for yourself! It seems like it might have belonged to someone with a petite reach as the G-sharp touch-piece is unusually long. Another fascinating detail is a special touch-piece for the right index finger for G-sharp.
show more All parts are stamped. The head joint and body are also engraved with the Rue d’Angoulême 66 address in Paris where the Millereau workshop was based between 1879 and 1911. As with every Millereau flute, this timeless piece does not possess a serial number. This solid silver Millereau flute is in fair condition. It was repadded by its last owner some time ago, but the pads need some adjustments. An overhaul is necessary. It comes with a period case. Its tone is characteristically French – lyrical, round and warm. It typically plays just below a=440 Hz, but it can also reach a=440 Hz. This exquisite handmade flute by Millereau, fashioned from solid silver, is a rare find – act now to make it yours! show less
