A beautifully illustrated authoritative guide to unusual historical musical instruments from across the world. Born in England, Alfred James HIPKINS (1826-1903) was an accomplished harpsichordist, musicologist and musical antiquary. The illustrations were made by Scottish watercolourist William GIBB ((1839-1929).  It was first published in 1888.

This particular hardcover book was published in 1945 by A. AND C. BLACK, LTD. The book is in good condition and all pages and printed colour plates are present. Slight yellowing. The hinge of the front cover is worn but not loose.
