Description

Wooden Boehm flute

This is a charming wooden Boehm flute equipped with a silver-plated nickel silver mechanism. We believe Bergmann’s Erben [Bergmann’s successors] to be a dealer’s mark, who was based in the spa town of Bad Elster in Saxony, Germany.

Its style and manufacture are typical of Markneukirchen workshops. Made of grenadilla, probably before World War II, this three-part typical Boehm flute, features closed-cup keywork. The embouchure has raised “cusps” on either side. If we look at the photos, we can see that the G-sharp lever was prolonged. The thumb rest is no longer present.

Its condition is really great. It was played and used by a professional player who it seems took care of it. There are no visible cracks. The silver-plating shows no wear and the inside bore is polished and shiny. It is playable, but would need a pad rechange to be played professionally again.

The flute comes in its original extremely sturdy case with all the goodies – two tenon protectors, aluminium cleaning rod, spring hook and plastic grease pot. What more do you need?

Pitch? Well, this lovely plays at a=441 Hz with the head joint fully inserted. Its sound is bright and powerful with plenty of colours.
