Description

Cavalry trumpet – JÉRÔME THIBOUVILLE-LAMY

This French cavalry trumpet or trompette de cavalerie was made by the renowned company Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy or J.T.L.  Its founder, Louis Émile Jérôme THIBOUVILLE, was born in Mouettes/La Couture in France in 1833. It was a large French musical instrument making company that was established in the mid-19th century. It resulted from the merger of several successful ateliers.  When Louis Émile Jérôme married a certain Marguerite Hyacinthe LAMY in 1861, the company name changed to Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy or J.T.L.

The firm produced large numbers of stringed, woodwind and brass instruments. Its customers included the Paris Conservatoire and the army. It even reached annual production rates of over 150,000 instruments produced by more than 1,000 skilled workers. A business was opened up in London in 1880. The entire J.T.L. company ceased business in 1969.

This is an E-flat cavalry trumpet. It is in good condition and has a tuning slide which even works; however, the mouthpiece is unfortunately stuck. The instrument plays (Yes…we tried it!) but needs to be restored to be played professionally. A nice item for a brass or military instrument collection.
