Bombardon/Tuba – TRAPP, Hermann

This small tuba or as Hermann Trapp called them in his catalogues “bombardón” plays at E, pitch a=440 Hz. We think it could be an F instrument. It features three rotary valves. All the parts are in very good working condition. The instrument was restored by its previous owner. It has a lovely maker’s plate and a beautifully decorated nickel-silver garland.

Hermann TRAPP (1855-?).  Hermann Trapp seems to have set up his instrument shop in 1878 where he was born in Neukirchen bei Eger after having trained in Paris, Vienna and Linz. Then he moved to Wildstein in 1893, which is now called Skalná in the Czech Republic. This instrument dates to before 1893 when Hermann Trapp moved to Wildstein.

The mouthpiece is from the same time and was made by Friedrich Alwin HECKEL (1845-1915) who was a renowned brass instrument maker in Dresden.
