Description
B-flute – CAHUSAC
This boxwood flute with ivory mounts and a single, silver key was made by the Cahusac family.
The lowest note is B-flat and the pitch is a=435 Hz. The nominal pitch therefore is A-flat. Its function is not so clear…perhaps for a specific musical arrangement or occasion. The letter B stamped on the flute is also strange. Cahusac flutes were normally pitched at a=435 Hz and therefore this B should really be B-flat. There are a few other similar instruments known to exist. We could say it is a piccolo in A-flat. Maybe it was used as a band or military flute. It is certainly a collectable unusual instrument.
This flute/piccolo feels great to play, offering a warm, sweet tone, and it’s always in tune!
