Description
Multiflute
What a collector’s item! This is a rare Multiflute made in Paris, France. The package contains a celluloid flute and three mouthpieces. We have three flutes in one: straight, side-blown and flageolet! These were marketed in the 1920s by the company ATLAS – see the ads from 1921 in the photos. They made the flute part in celluloid or nickel-plated nickel silver.
The package originally came with a tutor located inside the top of the box, a cleaning rod and cloth, which were sadly lost before it came to us.
Unfortunately using celluloid maybe wasn’t such a great idea – it becomes warped and shrinks over time. So, the nickel silver, nickel-plated head joints no longer fit inside the celluloid tube.
Nevertheless, this is a great piece for any collector’s showcase – three for one!
