Reform-style flute – Gebrüder Mönnig

This reform-style flute was made by the company GEBRÜDER MÖNNIG, which is still in business today in Markneukirchen, Germany today.

The roots of Gebrüder Mönnig date back to 1815, when Johann Carl Friedrich MÖNNIG (1789–1837) joined the Neukirchen wind instrument makers’ guild. The company was officially registered in 1875 by his grandson, Heinrich Wilhelm MÖNNIG (1852-1934) and renamed “Gebrüder Mönnig” by his own sons Wilhelm Hans (1878-1942) and Otto Fritz (1881-1967) in 1906. Over the decades, the workshop scaled into a major manufacturer, producing thousands of high-quality woodwinds annually.

This reform-style flute is made of grenadilla and has nickel silver keywork. It has a nickel silver head joint with a working tuning slide and an ebonite embouchure. We think it was probably made around 1910 or even earlier. One of its previous owners inserted a ring or bushing into the E fingerhole, maybe because they had problems to feel where it was.

It is supplied in its original case with all the goodies:  screwdriver, grease pot and one tenon protector.

This is an excellent find in well-maintained condition! This flute is 100% complete with all parts intact. It just needs a routine service, specifically fresh pads and a minor adjustment to the low B lever, to get it playing great again.
