Conical ring-key flute – BONNEVILLE
It’s the first time we’ve come across a conical ring-key flute made by the illustrious BONNEVILLE workshop in Paris. Founded by Auguste Adrien BONNEVILLE (1819-1895), the business lasted through three generations of skilled instrument makers.
This fine flute is crafted in beautiful, exotic cocuswood. Its elegant ring-key mechanism is expertly sculptured in nickel silver. Its oval embouchure is nicely cut and measures 10.3 x 12.1 mm. It is supplied in its original case.
Recent research by René Pierre (Blog, 2019), has provided indications of the date of manufacture of Bonneville flutes up to serial number 5611 in 1933. This one is from around 1900… the turn of the century.
This flute comes with its original, leather-bound case. In terms of condition, the flute underwent some previous restoration, including new pads. It plays at between a=435 Hz and a=438 Hz with a wonderful timbre. It sounds dark, round, soft… yet powerful.
We are confident that once in the hands of its future owner, this exquisitely crafted and exceptionally rare flute will never be put down again!
