Ebony drumsticks
Looking for a pair of authentic drumsticks?
Historically, heavy and dense woods were used to make drumsticks, such as ebony or rosewood. These drumsticks are crafted in ebony. They are tapered and the tip or bead is oval – sort of olive-shaped. The ends or butts are fitted with brass caps.
These drumsticks were likely to have been made in France. French drumsticks are sometimes called bâtons or more often baguettes. They could have been used for a military side drum. Each drumstick is 380 mm long and weighs 125 g.
As for their condition, these drumsticks have clearly seen a lot of action. The brass cap on one has opened up, and the other has a crack that runs from the butt upwards. Please look at the photos.
All in all, they’re a fantastic pair of historical drumsticks – all that’s missing is a drum to go with them!
