Five-keyed flute – HÉROUARD PÈRE
Crafted from stunning, wonderfully grained cocuswood, this four-piece Hérouard Père flute features five nickel-silver keys and nickel silver rings. It plays at a=442 Hz with the head joint fully inserted, while its built-in tuning slide offers the flexibility to play at a slightly lower pitch. It is fully playable as it was restored by its previous owner, with new pads, tenon corks and head cork. This Hérouard Père flute is very French indeed. It is very easy to play – a light, luminous and sonorous instrument with fantastic intonation.

Who was Hérouard Père? Jean Hérouard (1796-1867) was one of the many members of the original Hérouard dynasty of woodwind instrument makers based in La Couture-Boussey, France. He joined forces with his son Jean-Pierre HEROUARD 1825-1857 to form HÉROUARD PÈRE ET FILS. When his son died in 1857 at the age of 32, the company name changed to HÉROUARD PÈRE until Jean’s death in 1867. So, we can date this instrument to between those dates of 1857 and 1867.
