Description
Flute – F.A. ZOLES
Now on sale is a well-preserved, nicely made, boxwood flute from the beginning of the 1800s. The key is made of brass. The rings are made from horn and the cap features a bone inlay. It has three corps de rechange:
Sounding length longest corp de rechange 161 mm
Sounding length middle corp de rechange 151mm
Sounding length shortest corp de rechange 141mm
show more The flute is in a sort of untouched condition, in that it has its original thread and pad. There are no obvious cracks. The horn ring at the head joint was previously repaired and the cap itself is unfortunately stuck in its position. This instrument is sold as is for restoration, yet it does actually play. With the longest corp de rechange, it plays at a=430 Hz – nicely and in tune. By using the middle corp we get a=438 Hz and the shortest corp gives us a=446 Hz. But this flute needs some TLC in the form of cleaning, a new tenon thread and pad. The flute comes in its original cardboard case. Take a look at the photos. Inside, we can see the name Conr., (Conrad?), Melsbach and August 1814. Melsbach is a small town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. We are unable to decipher the text on the front of the case. After over 200 years, the cardboard is wearing away. So, we decided to supply a fabric case free of charge for this instrument. We know what is is, we know around when it was made and even who owned it. Only one very puzzling question remains unanswered…who was F.A. Zoles? show less
