Description
Flute – MILLER, G.
This interesting flute is crafted in boxwood, with six brass keys and ivory rings. If we look closer at the photos, we can see that it has so-called salt-spoon keys which we used from around 1810. It also has a somewhat rare C-sharp foot joint.
show more Who made this flute is more difficult to establish – apart from the obvious G. Miller. Could it have been the same George Miller who was an instrument maker working in London from around 1765-1790 and who was succeeded by John CRAMER? He could have then set up as G. Miller & Co, registered around 1810 in Haymarket. Or was this another G. Miller? We’ll maybe never know… What we do know is that this flute is in working condition. A crack in the head joint was previously fixed. Its wooden (?) cap is sadly missing, but can be replaced. The pads do of course need to be changed. This flute plays so easily, from top to bottom, the whole range. The pitch is slightly under a=440 Hz. Important note show less
