Description
Flute – POPPE, Theodor
This is a typical reform flute made in the 1920s of grenadilla with nickel silver keys and rings. It is made in very German style and stamped with its maker’s unusual mark on the head, middle and foot joints. The embouchure features raised “cusps” on either side, known as a Schwedler-Mundloch – very fashionable at the time!
Theodor Karl POPPE (1865-1934) took over the Dresden woodwind workshop that had once belonged to (Christian) Wilhelm LIEBEL (1793-1871), Gottlieb Louis ZENCKER (1813-1886) and Heinrich Franz Eduard PINDER (1857-1913).
In terms of condition, this TH. Poppe reform flute has a big crack that unfortunately runs through the embouchure. A professional restorer can definitely fix this and would also need to do a complete overhaul at the same time.
