The New Langwill Index: A Dictionary of Musical Wind-Instrument Makers and Inventors – Lyndesay G. Langwill & William Waterhouse
This is a great reference book for anyone who is interested in researching or collecting wind instruments. It was first published in 1960 as ‘An Index of Musical Wind-Instrument Makers’ and then was revised and published again in 1993 with its new title. Makers are listed alphabetically with some biographical and locational information. There are even instrument makers’ marks where known. A foreward on makers’ marks is provided by Herbert Heyde and the book also contains a list of cited collections and libraries, a glossary and a large bibliography.
This is a new book and a 2020 second impression of the first edition. There are entries for nearly 6,500 makers and inventors active until around 1950. It is a hardback with cloth covering.
This book is brand new and a wonderful resource for wind instrument lovers everywhere!
