Description
Boehm flute – RAMPONE, Agostino
This beautiful, closed-hole, silver-plated Boehm flute with B-foot was made by the maestro Agostino RAMPONE (1843-1897) in Milan, Italy. We can date it to around 1895-90.
It features masterfully crafted keywork with pointed arms. The instrument has a long foot tenon to stabilise the long foot – obviously better than a short one.
show more It has two levers for the right-hand index finger. One is the G-sharp key and the other moves the thumb C-key, plus the G key. What immediately strikes the eye is a lever near the G-sharp key, that goes down to the foot joint. It is employed by the little finger of the left hand to either open the D-sharp key or, if the foot joint is adjusted slightly in a different way, close the C-sharp and B key at the same time. This Rampone flute does actually still play, but is in desperate need of some nice new pads! [Especially the top C-sharp pad, as it seems to have got lost somewhere.] This is an immensely attractive flute. The lip-plate is engraved with floral ornaments. The embouchure itself was elegantly made, while the crown is delicately decorated. The original case is supplied with the instrument and it fits very snuggly inside. Two tenon protectors are also included. And finally… the pitch of this flute is a=440 Hz and it has a full, open sound. It’s an eye-catcher in every respect. show less
