Description
Boehm flute – MILLEREAU
This is an excellent illustration of a classic French flute from the post-1900 era. It is entirely handcrafted from silver-plated, nickel silver. The flute features soldered tone holes and elegantly sculpted keywork and crown. The head joint has a larger, somewhat modern-style embouchure size of 10.45 x 12.35 mm.
show more The head joint is not stamped. The body and foot joint are engraved with the Rue d’Angoulême 66 address in Paris where the Millereau workshop was based between 1879 and 1911. As with every Millereau flute, this remarkable piece does not possess a serial number. Nevertheless, it can be dated to the beginning of the 20th century. François MILLEREAU, who was born in 1831, learned his trade from Gustave Auguste BESSON before launching his own shop and workshop in 1861. He initially focused on brasswind instruments but later shifted his expertise to include woodwinds. His catalogue of instruments included flutes from around 1873. He received a gold medal for his woodwinds at the 1889 Paris exposition. On François Milleraux’s death in 1892, his son-in-law Herman SCHOENAERS (1865-1922) took over the business. It was eventually purchased by Selmer. This Millereau flute isn’t playable at the moment and requires a complete restoration. The silver plating on the body is in great shape, while a few keys exhibit minor wear but are still in top condition. Once restored, we anticipate that this instrument will captivate all with its distinctive and beautiful French timbre. show less
