Description

Piccolo – BÜHNER & KELLER

Here on sale is a very sweet-looking piccolo made in Alsace around 200 years ago. This piccolo was constructed by the Bühner & Keller workshop. It was located other side of the Rhine from Germany, in Strasbourg, a thriving woodwind instrument making scene.

Bühner & Keller was in business from around 1802 to 1844 and made woodwinds including bassoons, clarinets, oboes and flutes. It was an alliance between two families of instrument makers that dominated the woodwind instrument market in Strasbourg. The same business would be eventually taken over by the FINCK family, the ROTHs… then J. M BÜRGER.

This piccolo is made of ebony with three nickel silver keys and ivory rings. This instrument is the perfect combination. It can be a piccolo either down to low D (nominal pitch C) or down to E-flat (nominal pitch C-sharp).

It was professionally restored with thorough cleaning, new pads, key corks, tenon thread and screw cork.

Now it plays very nicely indeed with excellent intonation. To top that, it has a bright and colourful sound. Pitch??? – a=442 Hz!

Important note

This instrument contains ivory. A certificate for the legal sale of this instrument within the European Union is supplied when purchased.
