Silver flute – Jack Leff
Now on sale is a fantastic solid silver vintage Jack Leff flute, created around the beginning of the 1970s by Jacques LEFÈVRE (1930-2020). He was the son of Martial Lefèvre (1883-1957). Martial Lefèvre worked from 1928-1939 for Mlle. Gabrielle Chambille as the last workshop master of the Louis Esprit LOT (1807-96) company before it was purchased in 1952 by SML Strasser-Marigaux.
show more Jacques Lefèvre apprenticed under his father and worked for SML for some time before leaving in the 1960s to set his own business with the brand “Jack Leff”. His instruments are quite rare since he only made around 450 Jack Leff flutes in his lifetime. Many of these instruments are not made of solid silver. This exceptional C-foot flute was entirely handmade in solid 800 silver. Silver hallmarks can be found on the side of the lip plate, rings, C-sharp key and thumb key. There is Jacques Lefèvre’s own hallmark, plus one featuring a crab. The crab was used in France from 1838 until 1984 for 800 silver. The serial number 541 is engraved on the rib under the C-sharp key. If we take a look at this flute, we are immediately reminded of the great master French flute makers, particularly of course Louis Lot. It features soldered open tone holes and pointed keys. The embouchure is masterfully cut with quite gentle corners. The flute was overhauled by its previous owner – new pads, corks and felt. It plays at a=442 Hz and sings elegantly with a free, open and rich sound – exactly what we would expect from a great French flute. It has good response and excellent scale. The case is original and in brilliant condition. This is a wonderful opportunity to own a classical French handmade solid silver flute created with modern finesse. show less
