Ocarina No. 3 – MEZZETTI, Ercole
Born in Budrio, Ercole MEZZETTI (1841-1918) and his younger brother Alberto Napoleone MEZZETTI (1843-1906) set up production of ocarinas in Paris in 1878. Previously, they had spent many years performing with Giuseppe Donati’s Concerto group and the Montanari degli Appennini and learning how to make ocarinas with the great master himself. The business was very successful – enough for Alberto to move and open a branch factory in London. Ercole’s ocarinas won several awards. Alberto also published the famous ocarina method “The Mezzetti Ocarina Tutor”.
This ocarina is made of black glazed terracotta and features 10 tone-holes. The notes for each hole are indicated with gilded highlights. It also has a double hole. This ocarina is in playing condition.
