Thinned throughout ebonite flute – Boosey & Hawkes
This thinned throughout ebonite flute made by Boosey & Hawkes can be dated right back to 1936. The keywork is silver plated, nickel silver. The outside diameter of the flute’s body is around 25 mm. The head joint is metal lined. The lip-plate is concave in shape. If we take a look at the photos, we can see that the embouchure is oval and actually measures 10.7 x 12.55 mm.
In terms of condition, the flute is playable but would need new pads and adjustments to be played professionally again. Its sound is colourful, warm and mellow and it is pitched at around a=437 Hz.
